Travel to the Arctic has long been associated with high-priced trips, but The Great Canadian Travel company is challenging that stereotype with the addition of their Polar Bear Backpacker trip. This 10 day trek is targeted to students, backpackers and adventurous types who are looking for budget travel options. Guests travel 1,046 km through the wilderness by train from Winnipeg to Churchill, on the shores of Hudson Bay, Canada.
They are then transported to a popular polar bear habitat via a sturdy tundra buggy, which allows for close up viewing of the bears and amazing photo opportunities. The trip costs $1450, which includes all accommodations, train ride and the full day tundra excursion, along with day trips in and around Churchill and the opportunity for other activities including dog-sledding.

Last minute travel deals to Australia can cut the cost of a trip down under substantially. This is especially important for American travelers today, as the plunging value of the US dollar against the Australian currency has caused the price of travel to Australia to increase.
Yet more airline capacity has also been introduced between the two countries since 2009, which has caused airfares to plummet. The average coach airfare on the US to Australia routes was above $1,800 three years ago, and peak season rates averaged $1400 in December 2010. Rates do depend on the season one is traveling, with December-January being the peak season. The most fantastic deals to Tasmania can be found from May to October. If you're traveling last-minute and can reserve lodging less than a month out, then the Aussie-based website Wotif.com is a fine resource for hotel deals.
